During the week of April 21st a PlymoVent system was
installed in the firehouse. This system was purchased through the Department of
Homeland Security Firefighter Assistance Grant. The purpose of the PlymoVent
system is to connect to both of our pieces of apparatus via the tailpipe and
capture 100% of its exhaust emissions. Everything in this system is automatic
from the fan activation to the automatic release from when the apparatus is
leaving the apparatus bay to respond on a call. When we return from the call
all that is required is a simple connection back to the tailpipe of the
apparatus when it is entering back into the apparatus bay. The purpose of the
system is to be able to start the apparatus and not have any personnel inhale
any exhaust emissions while getting ready to respond on a call. This makes our
firehouse a safer work area for our members.

Monday,
April 21, 2008 Crystal Fire Company member and Borough Fire Police Captain
Eddie Albert passed away at his home. Eddie was very dedicated member to the
fire company and to the borough fire police.
Eddie himself went to a lot of training and promoted training for all other
fire police members. Eddie also obtained money to purchase equipment for the
fire police to enhance their services to our department and mutual aide
departments. Eddie had just received the
Fire Police Officer of the year award through the Lackawanna County Fire Police
Association on Sunday, April 20, 2008. It did not matter if it was 3 in the
evening or 3 in the morning he would always be in his fire police uniform. We
always use to tease him and tell him was always the best dressed for a call no
matter what time the call came in at and that he was like superman. If we would get a call in our first due or a
mutual aide run we can almost guarantee Eddie to be on the corner stopping
traffic so we can make our way through the intersection with the engine or
ladder in the safest way as possible. He was leader and very dedicated member
to this fire company for many years and he will be greatly missed.
The
officers and members would like to send out its condolences to Mrs. Albert and
her family for their loss and we would also like to tell you that if there is
anything we can do we are always here for you. Eddie and you are like family to
us here at the firehouse.
Eddie
you are in our hearts and prayers now and forever!

Sunday, March 30, 2008 a crew from the CFC traveled to Wilkes-Barre to participate

hosted at Chacko's Family Bowling Center. The purpose of the fundraiser is to
raise money to help pay expenses of treatments and other expenses to
firefighters, E.M.S. personnel, and police officers who are battling cancer. The
officers and members of the Crystal Fire Company feel that this is a great
cause and go out and support it every year. The CFC had two teams this year and maybe next year we will have three.

Wednesday March 26 at 23:00 hours Ladder 58 was alerted to respond to the
Highway Auto Parts on the Eynon-Jermyn road in the borough of Archbald (Station
21). Ladder 58 responded with a crew of 5 including Chief 58 (R. Rood) chauffeuring.
The ladder arrived on scene and instantly went to work for an exterior attack. On
the call 58’s elevated master stream, blitz-gun, and deck gun were put into
service. Chief 21 (Harvey) also called
for tanker’s due to the lack of hydrants in the area and the hydrants located
down on both sides of the structure. It was then decided to lay a 5” supply
line from the hydrant up the hill on the Jermyn side of the fire with several
apparatus in between to boost the pressure to supply the aerial devices (Ladder
58 & Ladder 20). The tanker shuttle was
then relocated to the Eynon side of the fire. Units remained on scene to about 3:30 in the
morning.

The blitzgun purchased is a TFT (Taskforce Tips) XXC-42 Blitzfire.
The blitzgun was purchased for exterior operations and it has been placed on
the ladder. The package included the gun itself, the adjustable tip, stacked tips,
and the mounting bracket for the gun.

We would also like to say thanks to all the members who helped out and especially those who helped even being up all night.
